Seeped in history, the Crail Golf Club spans two courses and over 100 years. In fact, this
Scottish Golf Club is the 7th oldest in the entire world. Come for the history or come for the challenge, whatever your
draw is to the club’s legendary courses you will not go home disappointed.
In 1895 golfing legend Tom Morris designed the original nine holes of Balcomie Links, the older of the
two Crail golf courses. Over the years, nine more holes have been added to make this a full 18-hole course. Balcomie
Links is as beautiful as it is historic. Located just steps away from the sea, magnificent views await you at every hole.
Walking the splendid Balcomie Links you can almost sense the thousands of golfers who have trod the same paths over the
last two centuries. With the natural incorporation of sandy bays and rocky outcrops there is no easy hole on the course.
In the middle of the course you will find either long, safe shots or shorter, more challenging drives depending on your
aspirations. Do not waste all your energy in the middle of the course though. Like so many top courses, the last few
holes will test you, but no matter how badly you fare, you will remember Balcomie as one of your finest days on any golf
course.
In 1998, Craighead was added as a complimentary course in the Crail Golf Club. A classic Scottish Links
course, Craighead was designed by American designer Gil Hanse. This course offers an entirely different shot and view on
each tee; its 18 holes migrate perfectly from seaside to rolling country land. Do not let the amazing views distract you
though, Craighead is no easy course. No two consecutive holes face the same direction and with bunkers aplenty, there are
plenty of opportunities to be humbled. However, it doesn’t matter how many times you landed in the sand, you can still go
home knowing you conquered one of the greatest courses in Scotland, and possibly the world.
After you have played these amazing courses retire to the clubhouse with great memories. With this much history and
tradition, Crail Golf Club is a must visit for every true golfer.
