EUROPEAN TOUR: The Russian Open Golf Championship
Sweden's Per-Ulrik Johansson started the final round with a four shot lead, but a birdie at the first by his closest challenger
Robert-Jan Derksen from Holland put the pressure on. Johansson, who had not won in 10 years showed no signs that he was going to
fold and after 4 birdies of his own on the front 9 at the 2, 5, 7 and 9th his first victory in 10 years was all but secured.
Derksen had no answer and after another birdie at the 11th by Johansson the victory was his. Johansson was able to par his way
home from there to finish on 23 under-par 265 and a 6 shot win.
PGA TOUR: WGC Bridgestone Invitational
Tiger Woods started the final round 1 back of South African Rory Sabbatini, but after a birdie at the 4th from Woods and a
Sabbatini bogey, Woods had the lead for the first time. By the time they had reached the 10th tee Woods was 6 clear after
saving par at the 9th by chipping in. No one was going to catch Woods now and after he chipped in at the 12th for his 5th
birdie of the day, Woods was able to coast home for his 6th victory in the event and the second time he had won 3 straight.
Woods finished on 8 under-par 272 and an 8 shot victory from Sabbatini and England and Justin Rose.
EUROPEAN LADIES/LPGA TOUR: Ricoh Women's British Open
In the first women's professional event ever held over the famous Old Course at St Andrews, there was a first time major winner
as well. Mexican Lorena Ochoa, the world number one led from start to finish to claim her maiden Major Championship. Ochoa
entered the final round with a 6 shot lead and after back to back birdies at the 5th and 6th to increase her lead even more
the result was never in doubt after that. Ochoa was now 8 under-par and well clear and it was now just a matter of how many.
Three bogeys over the closing holes did not matter as Ochoa finished on 5 under-par 287, with Korean Jee Young Lee and Sweden's
Maria Hjorth taking second spot 4 shots back.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: 3M Championshipp
D.A. Weibring had started the final round with a one shot lead and played very well to be 15 under-par by the time he got to
the 16th tee. It was there that he found himself now 2 behind Jay Haas who had stormed through the field with a closing 9
under-par 63 to set the clubhouse lead at 17 under-par 199. Weibring was not done and he birdied the 16th and 17th to holes to
tie Haas. Needing birdie to win, Weibring laid up on the reachable par 5 18th. From his lay up though Weibring hit a great
third to 10 feet and rolled in the winning birdie putt to pip Haas by a shot with an 18 under-par 198 total.
EUROPEAN CHALLENGE TOUR: Challenge of Ireland
Sweden's Magnus Carlsson claimed a 1 shot victory after a final round battle with Frenchman Michael Lorenzo-Vera. Carlsson
started the final round with a 2 shot lead and after a back and forth fight over the first nine holes Lorenzo-Vera took a 2
shot lead after three consecutive birdies from the 10th. Carlsson though came right back and rolled in a 50 foot birdie putt
at the 13th, as Lorenzo-Vera bogeyed the same hole. The pair were tied again, but not for long as Carlsson birdied the 14th to
regain his lead. A bogey at the 16th but Lorenzo-Vera ended his chances and despite a bogey at the 18th Carlsson had finished
on 10 under-par 278 to claim the winner's cheque.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open
Brad Elder claimed his first win since 1999 with a 4 shot victory over Argentinean Fabian Gomez. A bogey at the 13th looked to
have ended Elder's chances, but an amazing finish over the next 5 holes secured the win for Elder. An eagle at the 14th was
followed by a birdie at the 15th and Elder was back in the lead. After a par at the 16th Elder birdied the final 2 holes to
finish on 19 under-par 265 and his third Nationwide Tour title.
EUROPEAN SENIORS TOUR: Wentworth Senior Master
Ireland's Des Smyth claimed a 2 shot victory over a late charging Bob Charles from Australia with a winning 6 under-par 210
total. Smyth played flawless golf during the final round and with no dropped shots and three birdies at the 3rd, 5th and 10th
looked set for a very comfortable victory. Seventy-one year old Charles had other ideas and with birdies at the 15th, 16th and
17th made things interested, but it was not enough as Smyth was able to hang on for the win.
