PGA TOUR: Nissan Open
Charles Howell III parred the third extra hole to beat Phil Mickelson and claim his first win since 2002.
Howell looked to be set for another runner-up finish as Mickelson birdied the 17th to move one clear playing the
last. After his drive found the left rough, Phil's second came up short of the green and following a poor chip
to around 18 feet Mickelson missed his par putt to leave him tied with Howell on 16 under-par 268. Both men
parred the first extra hole, before Howell made a great up and down at the short 10th hole on the second extra
hole to save par and keep the play-off alive. Howell claimed the victory though at the next hole as Mickelson
missed his 10 foot par putt and Howell was able to roll in his 3 footer for a long awaited victory.
EUROPEAN TOUR: Enjoy Jakarta Astro Indonesian Open
Mikko Ilonen became the first Finnish player to win on the European Tour with a 1 shot victory over India's
Shiv Kapur, Australian Andrew Tampion and Filipino Frankie Minoza. Ilonen and Minoza were tied for the lead
after 10 holes before lightning stopped play, but after the re-start Ilonen took the lead with a birdie at the
12th, only to be pulled back after Minoza birdied the 13th. Ilonen took the lead for good though when Minoza
double bogeyed the 14th and he was still two clear on the 18th tee after Tampion bogeyed the last. That was all
important as Ilonen missed his short par putt on 18, but his bogey was good enough to finish on 9 under-par 275
and claim his maiden tour victory.
LPGA TOUR: SBS Open at Turtle Bay
Paula Creamer won the first event of the 2007 season with a 1 shot victory over Paraguay's Julieta Granada.
Granada had tied Creamer for the lead when she birdied the par 5 18th after Creamer had let slip a big lead with
a double bogey at the 11th and a bogey at the 13th. Playing behind though, Creamer rolled in a 40 foot birdie
putt of her own at the 17th to regain her lead. After finding the green with her third shot, Creamer was able to
safely 2 putt from 15 feet for par to finish on 9 under-par 207 and claim her first win since her rookie year in
2005.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am
Tom Watson won for the first time in the State of Florida with a 1 shot victory over Jay Haas and Andy Bean.
With temperatures in the 40's and the wind blowing 30mph it was very un-Florida like conditions and Watson seemed
to like it. Watson birdied 10, 12 and 13 to tie Bean before Bean Double bogied the 14th after shanking a pitch.
Watson was 2 clear and despite birdies on the final hole by Bean and Haas to get within a single shot, Watson was
able to hang on to finish on 4 under-par 209 and take the winner's check.
EUROPEAN CHALLENGE TOUR: Abierto Telefonica de Guatemala
Welshman Jamie Donaldson lead from start to finish to claim a 1 shot victory over Argentina's Emilio Dominguez.
In a two horse race Donaldson looked to be on his way to a comfortable victory after birdies on 10 and 11 as
Dominguez bogied 12 and 14, but golf is never that simple. Donaldson matched Dominguez's birdie at the 15th to
stay clear, but the Argentine birdied the 16th and 17th holes to get within playing the last. Dominguez was unable
to make the birdie he needed to force a play-off and Donaldson was able to par the last to finish on a winning 23
under-par 265 total.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Jacob's Creek Open Championship
Scott Sterling claimed a 1 shot victory over local boy David Lutterus to take his first winners cheque on the
Nationwide Tour. On a tight leader board Sterling and Lutterus had moved clear and were tied at 12 under-par on
the 18th tee. Sterling hit iron from the tee into the fairway as Lutterus, playing on his home course, took out
driver and went for the green on the dogleg par 4, but found a sandy waste area. After moving a sponsor's car,
Lutterus hit his second shot over the green before pitching back up to around 6 feet. Sterling's second came up
50 feet shot of the hole and he putted up to 3 feet. Lutterus missed his par putt before Sterling held his nerves
and rolled in the winning par putt to finish on 12 under-par 276.
