PGA TOUR: Arnold Palmer Invitational
On a day when everyone in the field was struggling, veteran Vijay Singh took control of the event with 4 birdies
in 5 holes to end the front 9 to take the lead. Tiger Woods had got within one of the lead but a double bogey at
the 11th ended his hopes and they were even further diminished when he finished bogey, double bogey, triple bogey
over the final 3 holes to drop well down the field. Rocco Mediate had stayed close all day, before another birdie
by Singh at the 15th moved him 4 clear and it looked all over. Playing behind Singh, Mediate birdied the par 3 14th
and by the time Mediate reached the 18th hole he was only one back as Singh had finished bogey, bogey, par for an
8 under-par 272 total. Mediate though found trouble up the last and could only make bogey to give Singh his second
win of the 2007 season with a 2 shot victory.
EUROPEAN TOUR: TCL Classic
Thailand's Chapchai Nirat opened up with a round of 11 under-par 61 to take the early lead and was 6 clear after
the first 2 rounds at 17 under-par. That lead was reduced to 5 entering the final round and when Argentina's Rafael
Echenique made 3 birdies on the front 9 the lead was reduced even further. Nirat though was not going to be denied
and as Echenique failed to take his chances on the back 9, Nirat sealed the victory at the long 240 yard par 3 15th.
Nirat found the putting surface with his tee shot and then rolled in a 30 foot birdie putt to move clear again.
Echenique had no answer and had to settle for second spot as Nirat finish on a winning 22 under-par 266 total to
claim his first win on the European Tour.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: AT&T Champions Classic
Tom Purtzer and Loren Roberts were forced into extra holes to decide the winner after both men had finished
tied on 10 under-par 206 in regulation. Purtzer had birdied the 18th to tie Roberts at 10 under, who was playing
behind him. Roberts could then have won in regulation, but was unable to convert his 20 foot birdie effort. Back
to the 18th they went and both parred the hole 3 times. On the fourth attempt, Purtzer broke the par trend when he
rolled in a 17 foot birdie putt. Roberts still had a 12 footer of his own to keep things going, but he was unable
to convert. It gave Purtzer his second win in the event in the last 5 years and his 4th Champions Tour title.
