EUROPEAN/PGA TOUR: WGC CA Championship
After three rounds of this World Golf Championship event, the leader board had a familiar look to it with
Tiger Woods sitting 4 shots clear going into the final round. Woods doesn't lose many leads and so it was
during the final round. It wasn't his best performance, but no one really got close enough to put any pressure
on him. Birdies at the 9th and 10th, after a three putt par at the par 5 8th left Woods 6 clear with 8 holes to
play. No one was going to catch him and so Woods played safe the rest of the way. Brett Wetterich did try to make
things interesting with birdies at the 14th and 16th to reduce Woods lead to three as they came to the famous par
4 18th hole. Woods played safe from the tee with an iron and laid up short of the green with his second. Wetterich
hit a superb second to 8 feet to put a little pressure on Woods, but after finding the green with his third Woods
two putted for bogey as Wetterich missed his birdie effort. It gave Woods a 10 under-par 278 total and a 2 shot
victory and his 13th WGC title.
EUROPEAN TOUR: Madeira Islands Open
Argentina's Daniel Vancsik started the final round with a 4 shot lead and showed no signs of nerves for a man
trying to win his first European Tour title. Birdies at 2 of his first 3 holes set him on his way as he increased
his lead to seven shots. Vancsik then made three consecutive birdies on holes 7 through 9 to increase his lead even
further and the event was over for the chasing pack. Vancsik came home in level par to finish on a tournament
record score of 18 under-par 270 and claim his maiden victory on tour with a 7 shot victory over South African
David Frost and Spain's Santiago Luna.
LPGA TOUR: Safeway International
Sweden's Suzann Pettersen started the final round 5 back of third round leader Lorena Ochoa from Mexico, but
after 5 birdies in a superb front 9, had moved 1 shot clear of the Mexican. Another birdie at the 14th moved
Pettersen 2 clear and looking like on her way to victory. Ochoa, who was playing behind the Swede had not given
up and dug deep to produce a superb finish. Birdies at 14 and 15 brought her back level and another birdie at the
17th moved Ochoa back into a 1 shot lead. Pettersen failed to birdie the par 5 18th leaving Ochoa knowing she only
had to make par to take the victory. Ochoa though finished things in style with another birdie at the 18th to
record a 2 shot victory with an 18 under-par 270 total.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Chitimacha Louisiana Open
After 3 opening rounds of 66 had given Skip Kendall a 3 shot lead going into the final round, it looked like he was
going to end over 12 years of wait for another winner's cheque. Golf is never that easy though. Kendall still had a
comfortable lead going into the back, but Paul Claxton was making a big move and after holing a 20 foot birdie putt
on the final green, had come home in 5 under-par 30 and set the target of 16 under-par 268. Kendall now behind,
birdied 2 of his last three holes to tie Claxton and force a play-off. Back to the 18th they went and after playing
the hole twice and both players making pars each time they moved over to the par 5 first. After both men found the
green in 3, it was Kendall that rolled in a 6 foot birdie putt to take the victory, after Claxton could only manage
2 putting for par.
