Tour Results - October 23, 2006
EUROPEAN TOUR: Mallorca Classic
Niclas Fasth won for the second time in 2006 with a 3 shot victory over Sergio Garcia. Fasth had
started the day tied for the lead with Irishman Gary Murphy but as Murphy struggled Fasth played superbly on the
difficult course to move into the lead. After Fasth birdied the 10th and 14th holes the tournament was his and he
was then able to par his way to the clubhouse to finish on a winning 5 under-par 275 total.
PGA TOUR: Funai Classic
Joe Durant shot a bogey free round of 7 under-par 65 to finish on 25 under-par 263 and claim a 4 shot victory over
Troy Matteson and Frank Lickliter. Durant took the lead for good when he birdied the par 5 10th from the sand and
increased his lead to 3 with birdies on 13 and 14. Durant then sealed the win with another birdie at the 16th to
move 4 clear and with 2 pars to finish with Durant had his first winner's cheque on Tour since 2001.
LPGA TOUR: Honda LPGA Thailand
Korean Hee-Won Han came from 2 back to win by 5 shots from American Diana D'Alessio in the first ever LPGA Tour
event in Thailand. Han started the day 2 behind the leaders but 5 birdies in her first 7 holes gave her the lead
that she would not lose. Han had moved 3 clear with nine holes to play and then increased her lead with further
birdies at the 11th and 14th holes. The tournament was hers and despite 2 bogeys on 16 and 18 Han had finished on 14
under-par 202 and claimed her 6th win on Tour.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: AT&T Championship
Fred Funk birdied 3 of the last 4 holes to come from 2 behind to win by a single shot from Chip Beck. Funk holed
his bunker shot at the par 3 13th for a birdie 2 but dropped a shot at the next to fall 2 behind Beck who was in
the clubhouse. Funk regrouped and promptly birdied the next three holes to regain the lead. A safe par at the par 3
18th gave Funk a 12 under-par 201 winning total and his first win on the Champions Tour in only his third start.
EUROPEAN CHALLENGE TOUR: Apulia San Domenico Grand Final
James Hepworth won the final event of the 2006 Challenger Tour season and in doing so gained his card for the 2007
European Tour. Hepworth had started the day with a three shot lead but bogeyed his first hole to give the rest some
hope. This was quickly put out when he birdied both the 3rd and 4th holes to move well clear again. Hepworth
secured the win with another birdie at the 16th and with two safe pars to close with finished on 13 under-par 271
and a 2 shot victory over Mark Pilkington, Rafael Echenique from Argentina and Swede Alexander Noren. Runner-up
Pilkington had the great consolation that he had finished top of the Challenge Tour Order of Merit for the season
and was also on his way to the European Tour next year.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Palmetto Pride Classic
For the first time in the 17 year history of the Tour an event was going to have a Monday finish. Due to bad weather
and darkness 2 players still have 2 holes to play and everything is still up for grabs. Sitting in the clubhouse is
Ken Duke who finished on 12 under-par 276 but Michael Sim is also on 12 under-par and is one of the players with 2
holes to play. A birdie, par finish gives Sim the victory, a par, par finish means a play-off and anything worse the
title is Duke's. Check with the Golfalot Newswire service later today to find out who comes away with the victory.
