Tour Results - October 30, 2006
EUROPEAN TOUR: Volvo Masters
Indian Jeev Milkha Singh was the surprise winner when he claimed a 1 shot victory over Sergio Garcia, Luke Donald
and Padraig Harrington. Singh lead by 1 going into the final round but was still tied with Garcia as he played the
17th and Garcia the last. As Garcia made bogey on 18 Singh played the shot of the week when he hit his second shot
on the par 5 to around 10 feet. After 2 putting for birdie Singh was 2 clear playing the last and was able to make
bogey to finish on 2 under-par 282 and claim the biggest win of his career. That Garcia bogey on 18 proved very
costly to Paul Casey as well, as it meant Harrington finished tied for 2nd instead of tied 3rd and in doing so
handed the Harry Vardon Trophy to Harrington as the number 1 on the European Tour Order of Merit.
PGA TOUR: Chrysler Championship
K.J. Choi claimed a 1 shot victory over Paul Goydos and Brett Wetterich and in doing so, qualified for the Tour
Championship next week. Choi started the day with a 1 shot lead but after hitting a superb 3 wood to 20 feet at the
first he rolled in the eagle putt to open up a 3 shot lead. Choi's lead was reduced to 2 at one point but no-one got
any closer as Choi finished things in style with a birdie on the final hole for a winning 13 under-par 271 total.
LPGA TOUR: Kolon-Hana Bank Championship
Despite a double bogey on the final hole, Korean Jin Joo Hong won for the first time on the LPGA Tour when she
claimed a 3 shot victory over fellow Korean Jeong Jang. Hong had opened up a 4 shot lead going into the final round
and never really looked like losing it after she birdied the second hole. Further birdies came at the 7th and 8th
to stretch her lead even more and by the time she reached the 18th tee she was 5 clear. The double bogey only
reduced her winning margin as Hong finished on 11 under-par 205 to claim her maiden win on tour.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Charles Schwab Cup Championship
Jim Thorpe won for the first time in 2006 in the last event of the season with a 2 shot victory over Tom Kite.
Thorpe started the final round 2 clear but after consecutive birdies at the 9th and 10th Kite had taken the lead.
Thorpe was not going to lose this one and after a superb eagle at the 13th, Thorpe then chipped in for birdie at
the 15th to move clear of Kite. Despite a bogey on the 18th Thorpe finished on 17 under-par 271 to take his 12th
winner's cheque on the Champions Tour. In the race for the Order of Merit title Loren Roberts came to the final
green needing to 2 putt from around 50 feet to finish number 1. His first putt stopped 4 feet from the hole but
Roberts was unable to hole his second putt as it lipped out which meant that Jay Haas finish top and claimed the
$1 million prize.
LADIES EUROPEAN TOUR: Dubai Ladies Masters
Annika Sorenstam strolled to a 6 shot victory over fellow Swede Helen Alfredsson in the inaugural Dubai
tournament. Sorenstam had entered the final round 7 clear and was never going to be caught as she coasted to a
final round of 3 under-par 69 and a winning 18 under-par 270 total. The final results meant that Laura Davies
captured her 7th Order of Merit title in her 21st year as a professional.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Miccosukee Championship
Bryce Molder claimed his first win as a professional as he won by a single shot from Boo Weekley. Molder made
his move with consecutive birdies at the 14th, 15th and 16th to take the lead and when Weekley missed his birdie
putt on the 18th green, Molder playing behind only needed a par for victory. After finding the green in regulation
Molder was able to 2 putt from 12 feet to finish on 14 under-par 270 and claim his first winner's cheque on tour.
