The 2006 Ryder Cup
On an amazing and very emotional final day Europe came away with victory as they defeated the USA by 18 1/2 to 9 1/2 to retain the Ryder Cup. Europe started the day with a 4 point lead and sent out talisman Colin Montgomerie in the first match against David Toms. Montgomerie got up early with birdies at the third and 4th and as the rest of the European team teed off, blue was the colour on the scoreboard all day. Montgomerie finally won his match with a great up and down at the 18th and the rest is history. Paul Casey followed with a win over America's best player of the week Jim Furyk and when David Howell won his match 5&4 and Luke Donald won his 2&1 the Cup was retained and it was all down to who would sink the winning putt. With Darren Clarke playing the 16th and 3 up, it was Henrik Stenson who got there first when he holed from 4 feet at the 15th to beat Vaughn Taylor 4&3 to claim the Ryder Cup for Europe. Moments later Darren Clarke secured victory over Zach Johnson at the 16th green and things got very emotional as Clarke burst into tears and nearly took everyone else with him. As the rest of the games finished, Europe claimed their third straight Ryder Cup with a second consecutive record winning margin of 9 points. Who can wait for 2 years time in Kentucky!!

PGA TOUR: Valero Texas Open
Eric Axley won for the first time on the PGA Tour with a 3 shot victory over Justin Rose, Dean Wilson and Anthony Kim. Axley started the day 4 clear and had moved 6 clear by the time he reached the turn. It looked like an easy walk to victory, but after a double bogey at the par 5 14th his lead was suddenly down to 2 shots. Another bogey followed at the 17th from Axley but he held his nerve down the final hole to finish things off in style by hitting his approach to 4 feet and rolling the putt in for birdie and a winning 15 under-par 265 total.

LPGA TOUR: Longs Drugs Challenge
Karrie Webb held off a charging Annika Sorenstam to claim a 1 shot victory and her 4th win on tour this year. Webb started the day 5 clear and a couple of early birdies seemed to have set her on her way to victory but when Sorenstam birdied the par 3 7th and Webb made double bogey things got interesting. When Sorenstam eagled the 9th, Webb's lead was down to 2 shots and she finally cut the lead to a single shot with a birdie at the 17th. However Sorenstam was unable to birdie the last as Webb holed from 2 feet for par to finish on 15 under-par 273 and the win.

EUROPEAN CHALLENGE TOUR: Challenge de Espana
Frenchman Adrien Mork came out of nowhere with an amazing final round of 10 under-par 62 to claim a 2 shot victory over third round leader, Welshman Kyron Sullivan. Mork, who earlier this season had shot 59, started 7 back and had 6 birdies and an eagle in a front nine of 28 for a 2 shot lead. Sullivan tried to fight back over the back nine but Mork held on and finished with 2 further birdies in the last 3 holes to finish on 17 under-par 271 and take his second win of the 2006 season.

NATIONWIDE TOUR: Oregon Classic
Cliff Kresge parred the third extra hole to beat Ricky Barnes and claim his first win on the Nationwide Tour since 2002. Both players had finished tied on 17 under-par 271 with Barnes missing a chance to win in regulation when his eagle putt on the 18th hole narrowly missed. The first two extra holes were halved before they moved on to the short par 4 10th hole. Kresge laid up before hitting a wedge to 25 feet. Barnes went for the green, but found a bad lie just short and then chipped through the green. Barnes pitched down to 4 feet before Kresge rolled his birdie putt up and tapped in for his par. Barnes then was unable to convert his short par putt to give Kresge the win.
